• eliminating the tedious "compare & clear" process of comparing all bank statement transactions with those in the checkbook to determine reconciling entries. Banks have long been doing a version of that process for checks. Their statements provide asterisks where there is a break in check sequence indicating an unpaid (uncleared) check or other reason such as a cancelled or voided check. Thus, Quicken et al, and bank type balancing are duplicating much of the work already done by banks in determining outstanding checks. Whizbal, however, uses that information to minimize balancing work and avoids that tedious process in its normal balancing process.
  
  
• providing a simple way to do catch-up balancing for prior unbalanced months. This is not available with Quicken et al, nor with bank type balancing.
